Zoals de zee
- die blauwe kat -
Zich wijds
Aan je voeten legt
 
Het warme zand
Je trotse gang markeert
Met afgunst
En bewondering
 
Awa, dochter van Gambia
Mooi en puur ben je
Onbevangen
 
Als kokosbloesem
In de zilte wind

Behold the sea

Widely laying itself
At your feet
 
The warm sand
Marks your proud walk
With envy
And admiration
 
Awa, daughter of the Gambia
Beautiful and pure you are
Unbiased
 
Like coconut blossom
In the salty wind
